THE FOX DEN
LOCATION: Patterson Park, Baltimore, Maryland
YEAR: 2021
SIZE: 2,400 SF
CLIENT: Heather Keating & Jimmy Edgerton
This 2,400 SF gut renovation and addition to an existing three-story rowhome reimagined the property as a seven-bedroom Airbnb and event venue. The transformation included a rear addition, full reconfiguration of interior layouts, and excavation of both basements to create independent suites. The result is a series of flexible spaces—from intimate private rooms to expansive gathering areas—designed to accommodate extended family stays, short-term rentals, and community events.
The project is anchored by large, open common areas that flow across multiple levels. A mezzanine overlooks the main entertainment space, bringing natural light deep into the interior while offering a vantage point for art displays and plantings. The custom catering kitchen, complete with a full bar and a dumbwaiter connecting to the roof deck, supports frequent dinner parties and performances. The jewel of the project is the double-wide rooftop deck, designed as both a private retreat and a venue for large outdoor gatherings.
Original architectural elements were carefully salvaged and repurposed, with mantles, beams, and wood flooring reintroduced into the design to preserve the home’s historic fabric.
Now known as The Fox Den, the project hosts a variety of visiting guests and events, ranging from concerts to podcast recordings. Its versatility earned it recognition as a finalist in the Baltimore Magazine Home & Design Awards 2023 and featured in the magazine’s May 2022 edition.
“The couple repurposed many original features into the guest suite, like using old beams to build a loft; a renovated bath gives a modern twist on a classic style.”
