Embedded in a developing arts district in the heart of Baltimore, Guilford Hall Brewery serves as a central location for the Greenmount West community to work and gather. Located in a portion of the historic Crown Cork & Seal Company’s industrial complex, this 20,000+ sf development revitalizes abandoned portions of the buildings, turning vacant and blighted spaces into a brewery, tasting room, restaurant, and event space.

The renovation consisted of removing much of the old infrastructure of the 1898 structure, rehabilitating various historic surfaces and features, and then subtly redefining the spatial arrangement with new partitions that organize circulation. The result supports various activities, from an outdoor biergarten and interior dining to a 200-person event space.

The project also considers the necessity of a workforce and employment strategy for the longevity of both businesses and the community and has become a destination for apprenticeship programs in the hospitality industry. There is a significant hiring plan and training program for those in the brewing, restaurant, and event planning industries. The Hall supports and hosts local events throughout the year, becoming a vital partner and anchor within the community.

“Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”
